As a freelance writer-creative director for Sales Development Associates, I wrote and produced these projects for Fairbanks Morse Pump (acquired by Pentair Water in 2012. Projects of note include the following.
GIWW WEST CLOSURE PROJECT
This project connects the dots for a perfect integrated content marketing campaign. Shooting the breeze with a Fairbanks engineer on a different project entirely, I learned that Fairbanks was about to install eleven massive water pumps (each capable of moving 20,000 cubic-feet-per-second) in post-Katrina New Orleans. The other dot was WEFTEC (an industry trade show serving waste water and flood control industry pros) that would be held in a month … in New Orleans. Obviously, let’s get the engineers to the site.
But let’s also bring the site to them. I went to New Orleans and commissioned a local photographer and video crew for a helicopter ride over the pump station. The pay dirt? Let’s get the beauty shot: The pump being lifted. During the same time frame, we captured video from Kansas City with the engineers involved.
The target audience (Wastewater/Flow System Engineers) convening at WEFTEC were greeted by banners, print materials, and this video playing at the Pentair booth. Booth invitations were emailed and sent via direct mail to previous WEFTEC attendees. Note that the video shown here has received 34,000 views and is still active on the Pentair website.
The video was intentionally produced docu-style: No scripting, just hearing from the engineers involved (as well as a supplier and chief project manager) would be interesting enough. As a content marketing vehicle, this project had legs galore — we’d tell the story on a special website, and use the video at the tradeshow as well. Emails to engineers nationwide with links to the site opened many doors.
INDUSTRIAL FIRE PROTECTION CAMPAIGN
This campaign introduces the company’s line of fire protection equipment to engineers in varied manufacturing, oil refining, and chemical industries.
The campaign included this brochure with technical information about the pumps used for industrial fire protection using high impact industrial application images.
The Industrial Fire Protection Video shown provided a central component to an overall integrated marketing campaign designed to open doors for Pentair marketing people. I wrote, shot and edited the video, using footage captured at the company’s (Aurora, IL) plant. Pentair’s newly formed Industrial Fire Protection team leader is the narrator.
Sales Development Associates wrapped other elements around this, which included a Kindle pre-loaded with the video, that was brought to the customer by the Pentair representative.
I shot all B-roll footage at the plant and used historical (public domain) images and stock video to complement the presentation.
